Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Measures rigorous thinking on hard, ambiguous problems — framing and structuring before solving, finding root causes, testing assumptions, seeing system-wide effects, and deciding well despite cognitive biases. Harder than a basic reasoning test, it targets applied judgment. Items are realistic problem situations where the confident, fast answer is often wrong. Scoring is keyed to the evidence: problem framing and structuring, root-cause analysis, seeking disconfirming evidence and testing assumptions, systems-level second-order effects, process debiasing (Kahneman; Lovallo), and weighting evidence over vivid anecdote. Behavioural-tendency framing and equally-credible, misconception-anchored options make it resistant to guessing and faking. A stretch band raises the difficulty. Administration time: 22-30 minutes.
