Manager Effectiveness Diagnostic (Advanced)

The advanced diagnostic for experienced people-managers — harder than any first-time-manager course. It measures the judgement that separates managers who get results through others from those who quietly bottleneck their teams: calibrated delegation, evidence-based feedback, building accountability with psychological safety, goal-setting that fits the task, and matching coaching versus directing to each person. Items are realistic management dilemmas where every option is something a capable manager might do — the strongest reflects what the management-science evidence actually shows. Scoring is keyed to that literature: managerial derailment (Hogan), delegation and authority transfer (Yukl), Feedback Intervention Theory (Kluger & DeNisi), psychological safety with standards (Edmondson), employee voice (Detert & Edmondson), goal-setting theory (Locke & Latham), Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan), and the contingency logic of coaching versus directing. Behavioural-tendency framing and equally-credible, misconception-anchored options make it resistant to guessing and faking. A stretch band raises the difficulty to subtle, high-pressure calls.
