Mentoring & Sponsorship

A self-insight profile on developing others' careers — the difference between advising and developing, and between mentoring and sponsorship. It measures helping people reach their own decisions, reading what they truly need, actively advocating for them (not just advising), and connecting development to what they care about. Items are realistic mentoring situations where the helpful instinct creates dependence or stops short of real advocacy. Scoring is keyed to the evidence: developmental coaching over advice-giving, the mentor-versus-sponsor distinction and the advancement value of sponsorship, building independence over dependence, and autonomy-and-purpose-driven development. Behavioural-tendency framing and reverse-keyed items reduce faking. Administration time: 14-20 minutes.
